On 16th June 2020, 7 individuals, ages varied from 10 to 70, have committed suicide in our so-called City of Joy. This bizarre series of events happened two days after Actor Sushant Sing Rajput’s Suicide. This song came after these events shook Samik. To express the pain and process of the desperation to commit suicide, and how he has overcome such a situation twice in his life, He chose his words over visuals and wrote the lyrics within an hour and immediately contacted two of his extremely talented musician friends. Shibasish Bannerjee produced the track, and Chayan Chakraborty played guitar and mixed the song. After the song started sounding good, Samik thought of making a music video. But shooting in the current situation of a global lockdown was arduous to achieve. They planned a home shoot with only the DOP Prosenjit Koley on an iPhone and eventually edited by Samik on the same phone.
Samik is a filmmaker who also composed and wrote songs for films like ’89’ – the film, ‘Aami Joy Chatterjee’ ‘Tritio Adhyay’ and D-major. Here D-major was his debut feature film as a director, and in the feature film Tritiyo Adhyay he also sang the song he wrote and composed. He used to work as a VFX technical director and worked for films like Life of Pi, Night at the Museum and etc.
