Sunday Project – Feed A Grand Parent
Senior citizens, from any strata, ideally shouldn’t have to worry about their necessities. The benificiaries of this programme are senior citizens who have been ignored by their families and are left incapacitated or destitutes.
Every Sunday, for the past 5 years, Knognat Foundation has taken up the task of providing them with dry ration, consisting of rice, dal, oil, spieces, basic vegetables for their entire week. Today, we have 75 senior citizens being served.
The super-cyclone Amphan raged through the state of West Bengal, India decimating everything in its path on the evening of 20th May,2020. Howling winds ripped apart homes, destroyed hundreds of river embankments, flooded countless fields of agriculture and reduced villages to a rubble.
As the roofs crashed and ellectrocuted bodies started to surface we were nothing but a mere ticker. As the desperate cries of help was trying to be louder than the raging storm, it was comfortably muffled by the fourth estate and the mainstream news media who chose to look the other way.
In a state already reeling under the ongoing war against Covid-19, hundreds of villages had to huddle under whatever structure or protection they could get. Social distancing went for a toss. Infections are likely to rise.
Due to various circumstances, Indians are Proficient immigrants. We have spread globally and we have taken our culture, out art and our ideas with us. But in the process, we have become disjointed. Our roots have started to shrink, or has started to forget. We say it’s time for us to remember who we are. We are born out of the words of Bards and moulded by the ideas of revolution. We are Nazrul Islam, We are Surya Sen.
Remember who are we. Remember Matangani Hazra, remember Mohiner Ghoraguli. We never give up. We have gone through colonization, oppression, partitions and famine. We have survived, we always do. No storm can destroy Bengal. We are born out of the land where the mind is without fear and the head is held high.
