The current crisis and lockdown have set up an unprecedented challenge for all educational institutions, which have had to reinvent themselves from a predominantly brick-and-mortar model to fully online learning and organisational processes, in just a few weeks. Instead of seeing this crisis as a threat, Eastern India’s largest educational conglomerate Techno India Group has been taking it as an opportunity to lead the way towards the future of education, with innovative and impactful educational initiatives. “How can we collectively leverage humankind’s capacity to come up with solutions to bring about positive change? How can we significantly contribute to growth in the entrepreneurship space in India, and support individuals in developing key skills such as problem-solving, leadership, risk-taking or critical thinking for greater collective growth?” – are the key questions that Techno India Group’s Sustainability Director Pauline Laravoire has been striving to provide solutions to.
With these questions in mind, Ms Laravoire along with the Group’s Director of Global Operations Meghdut Roy Chowdhury have curated the Future-Proof Hackathon 2020, India’s largest open-to-all virtual hackathon for innovative tech ideas that will thrive in the post-COVID-19 world. Since Cyclone Amphan passed through West Bengal, teams have also been invited to brainstorm on crisis response management solutions to such natural disasters. The Hackathon, a 50-hour sprint-like event gathering more than 500 participating teams of 2 to 10 team members each who will collaborate intensively on software solutions, will take place online from June 8th to 10th. The Hackathon will be inaugurated and declared officially open on Techno India Group’s Facebook page (facebook.com/tigkolkata/) from 10am to 11am on June 8th. For the inaugural programme, Techno India Group’s Founder-Chairman and Techno India University’s Chancellor Dr Goutam Roy Chowdhury will welcome grand governmental, industry and academia figures as the Hackathon’s ‘Super Patrons’ to motivate and inspire the participants, namely: Keynote Speaker HIDCO’s CMD and Additional Chief Secretary of Govt of WB Mr Debashis Sen; Deb A Mukherjee, President Designate of BCC&I; Dr Saikat Maitra, Vice Chancellor of MAKAUT; Dr Kunal Sarkar, Senior Vice Chairman, Director and Head of Cardiac Surgery at Medica Superspecialty Hospital; and Sumit Roy, Founder-Director at UnivBrands.
For proper framework, guidance and opportunitiesfor the participants, Techno India Group, its tech fest teams, IIC teams and technical committee members have also successfully welcomed onboard numerous external partners: Chamber Partner The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCC&I), Offbeat CCU, Y-East, Technopreneurs’ Surrogate Ventures Pvt. Ltd, Unity, The Logical Indian, AIC-RNTU, Skillenza, GirlScript, ABVIL. Under the outstanding leadership of Techno India Group’s Chairman Dr Goutam Roy Chowdhury, the Future-Proof Hackathon will be the very first of its kind. “India’s mindset, economic and political realities do not allow bright minds to let go of the need to earn a pay at the end of the month. There are genius brains out there that cannot thrive because risk-taking is not allowed in such environment”, said Dr Roy Chowdhury. Cash prizes to winners therefore weren’t enough to enable positive change in the long run. For all these reasons, the Hackathon will also reward identified bright minds with long-term internship, employment and high-education opportunities.
Dr Roy Chowdhury’s vision also led to the foundation of the Future-Proof Labs by Techno India Group, headed and executed by Meghdut Roy Chowdhury. The Future-Proof Labs is an unconventional venture-building structure that will enable Techno India Group to keep reinventing itself in the long run through open innovation. “The Future-Proof Labs will gather the finest and most innovative talent in the country. It will host bright individuals and enable them to be intrapreneurs within Techno India Group. In other words, they will benefit from both stable employment and the entrepreneurial freedom to innovate”, Meghdut Roy Chowdhury explained. The brightest winners of the Future-Proof Hackathon 2020 will be the first cohort of The Future-Proof Labs, ideally located in learning hub Offbeat CCU on the EM Bypass. Chamber Partner BCC&I will work with The Future-Proof Labs, hand in hand and in the long run. “The Future-Proof Labs is an outstanding initiative of Techno India Group. It will provide the Chamber’s businesses the opportunity to keep evolving and updating themselves through open innovation”, President Designate Deb A. Mukherjee asserted.
